Dr Ian Murray is an experienced legal practitioner and academic, advising on not-for-profit issues and on resource and energy issues across Australia. He also has practical experience in the regulatory and governance issues faced by not-for-profits, as a not-for-profit board member including chairperson for over five years and as an in-house lawyer at UWA.

Dr Murray's research projects have included:

  • The intergenerational implications of asset accumulation by not-for-profits
  • Outsourcing of government functions to not-for-profits
  • Development of analytical tools to review Indigenous asset management structures

Supervisor opportunities

Dr Murray has been a higher degree by research supervisor since 2012 in the topics of:

  • Self-managed superannuation fund taxation regulatory reform
  • The influence of religiosity on tax morale in Indonesia
  • The time at which expenditure should be recognised for tax purposes
