Funding support
Indigenous Collections Access Grant 2024/25
Travel funding and support
The Berndt Museum can assist with funding support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to visit the Museum collection and archives. We also accept individual applications for Indigenous people seeking family histories and genealogies.
Who can apply?
Please note this grant is only offered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Individuals can apply for up to $800
- Groups can apply for up to $4,000, dependent on the size of the group
Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis and will vary based upon individual needs and resource availability. We’re open to discussing additional funds if there’s a strong case for larger groups.
Application deadline
We accept applications throughout the year.
We recommend getting in touch at least 12 weeks in advance of your intended visit. However, please get in touch if there is an urgent need, or an opportunity to visit the Museum that aligns with other travel.
What does the grant cover?
The grant is not intended to cover all travel costs and we recommend seeking supplementary funding.
- Travel to the Museum by road, rail or air
- Accommodation
We can also provide a letter of support for funding applications for any planned visits.
Please note this grant is intended for access and research trips only. We will not cover travel that will be paid for by an employer or another organisation.

- Community groups and individuals are responsible for booking their own travel and accommodation.
- The grant will be administered as a either a one-off payment or reimbursement of an agreed amount. For any reimbursements, receipts must be provided.
