FACILITY
Centre for Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine
Leading the way in stem cell research
The Centre for Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine (CCTRM) is a collaborative research space for stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine. Founded in 2012, the CCTRM works with local, national and international networks to uncover the future of stem cell therapy and tissue engineering. Established by Professor Geoff Laurent, a world-leading scientist with a global network, the centre is housed within the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
Over recent years, advances have been made in the bioengineering, 3D printing of scaffolds and cellular reprogramming technology space, all of which researchers are continuing to develop into therapies that can improve patients’ lives.
As a multidisciplinary centre, the CCTRM links scientists with clinicians, attracting leading researchers from WA universities, key research institutes and hospitals. This collaboration includes a partnership with the Australasian Society for Stem Cell Research.
The main goals of the CCTRM are to create a network of researchers, attract new research leaders to WA, win new research funding and investment, and develop collaborative research PhD training programs and industry partnerships.
Following five years of Professor Laurent successfully leading the CCTRM team, he stepped down as director in 2017 to make way for Professor George Yeoh, who specialises in liver stem cells, regeneration and liver cancer.
More extensive information about CCTRM is available here.
Our research
The CCTRM works across research areas including chronic disease and cancer of the lung, liver, eye, ear, skin, central nervous system and immune system.

Collaborations
Researchers at the centre believe collaboration is key to fostering innovative solutions to advance medical developments and improve health outcomes for patients. The centre’s collaborative approach will lead to new research developments, the advancement of novel therapies towards clinical trials and improved patient care. CCTRM brings together researchers and clinicians from across the State.
