Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) is an advanced category of professional recognition, acknowledging sustained effectiveness and academic leadership in teaching and enhancing the student learning experience, combined with scholarship, educational research and other professional activities, including working with others through mentoring, support and/or coordination. Globally, only 9% of HEA Fellows are awarded SFHEA. To be recognised as a Senior Fellow, candidates must have:
- Significant teaching or support of learning experience;
- Extensive and continuous formal and informal professional development;
- Successful co-ordination, support, supervision, management and/or mentoring of others (whether individuals or teams) in relation to teaching and learning; and/or,
- Mentored, engaged and influenced peers in teaching and learning.
The Dialogic Route to Senior Fellow is designed for UWA staff (both academic and professional) who have significant levels of experience in teaching and learning support (this may include research supervision). The UWA AFS enables recognition of quality and excellence in the practice of teaching and the support of learning. Candidates who satisfy all the requirements of the SFHEA Dialogic Route will gain an internationally recognised Fellowship, a deeper insight into their own teaching philosophy and practices, and an affirmation of UWA’s commitment to teaching as a priority. The Dialogic Route is designed to allow candidates to show-case your particular strengths and capabilities.
Overall, the Dialogic Route aims to ensure that you meet Descriptor 3 (SFHEA) of the Professional Standards Framework, with a focus on D3vii – evidence of “Successful co-ordination, support, supervision, management and/or mentoring of others (whether individuals or teams) in relation to teaching and learning”. As a Senior Fellow applicant, you will be able to evidence successful engagement in continuing professional development in relation to teaching, learning, assessment, scholarship and, as appropriate, related academic or professional practices.
To begin the application process for Senior Fellow (Dialogic Route), please fill in the Expression of Interest before Friday 26th June 2020. The Academy Fellowship Scheme Fact Sheet provides more information on the program.
