Frequently asked questions

I have an offer for a Higher Degree by Research and the COVID-19 situation is affecting my ability to commence studies. What can I do?

If you are arriving from overseas to commence your HDR, you should defer your commencement until you are able to arrive in Australia without being required to self-isolate. Please refer to the Department of Home Affairs for the latest advice on travel restrictions.

You can defer your HDR by contacting the Graduate Research School via admissions-grs@uwa.edu.au. We can make special arrangements, including deferred commencement, for most HDR students, and most HDR courses have flexible start dates.

Can I travel internationally for work or study?

See Travel Advice for details.

As an international student can I work or study from home?

Yes. If you are a PhD student who has met all the requirements and your Candidature is confirmed (which is 12 months FTE from the commencement of your study) then remote study is normally considered. You will be required to submit quarterly interim reports.

If you an international MPhil student then it may only be considered after you receive your first year annual report that is at a satisfactory level.

All requests by international students must be endorsed by a supervisory team and the Graduate Research School Coordinator(s).
