Work integrated learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) helps bridge the gap between theory and practice by providing opportunities for students to gain hands-on, practical experience. It also allows employees to help shape the graduates of tomorrow.

WIL describes a range of approaches that integrate theory with the practice and experience of work. Common WIL activities include work placements, internships or projects in the workplace, completion of case studies, service learning, work shadowing and simulations on campus.

A number of organisations have collaborated to develop Australia's first ever National Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Strategy. The strategy is designed to increase WIL opportunities to build the productive capacity of Australia's workforce, improve graduate job prospects and meet the skills needs of employers.

Learning and teaching awards

The annual Innovation and Teaching Awards celebrate excellence in teaching and recognises additional service many staff undertake often without reward. These faculty based awards are aligned with the Awards for Australian University Teaching and reflect our appreciation for academics who are making a difference to our students and their learning experience.

Award categories include:

Assurance of learning

Assurance of Learning is a process designed to ensure students achieve program goals and learning objectives. It helps us to identify opportunities to enhance the student learning experience and reflects our commitment to the ongoing improvement of program curriculum. Each program has broad goals and specific objectives that align with the Australian Qualifications Framework, Discipline based learning standards and the UWA Educational Principles.

Fellowships

The Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Education supports visiting researchers both nationally and internationally through our fellowships. These enable visitors to pursue UWA-based research and share their experience with staff, students and the community with lectures and seminars.
