Associate Professor Sally Male

Associate Professor Sally Male is the Chair in Engineering Education at UWA and leads a first-class program of engineering education and research. Studying electrical engineering at the University in the late 1980s, she began her UWA career as a full-time tutor in 1990. Since then she has raised a family, held academic positions at Curtin University, and completed her UWA PhD on ‘Generic engineering competencies required by engineers graduating in Australia’. Associate Professor Male joined engineering education research at UWA in 2010. She then worked on five significant federally funded projects, including three as Chief Investigator, before being appointed Chair in Engineering Education in 2017.

Associate Professor Male’s research informs the continuous national improvement of engineering education. She has developed and facilitated numerous workshops on curriculum development for educators in universities around Australia. Overseeing the Professional Practicum in the Master of Professional Engineering, Associate Professor Male is Program Chair for the first two years of the Engineering Science major.
