Profile
Professor David Edwards
Started at UWA: 2015
I lead an applied bioinformatics group where I try to understand genomes, the billions of As, Gs, Cs and Ts that encode each and every organism, using super computers and artificial intelligence, asking complex biological questions using big data.
I am trying to understand how the differences in genomic sequences influences the differences we see in organisms. Can we use this understanding to produce better crops to feed a hungry world?
In addition to leading an applied bioinformatics research group, I have established the UWA Centre for Applied Bioinformatics that promotes the broader bioinformatics teaching and research community in WA across biomedical, environmental and agricultural areas.
