A magnificent setting

There's no better place for special occasions than the grounds of The University of Western Australia.

The setting is in one of the most beautiful regions of Perth.

By the Swan River in Matilda Bay and nearby Kings Park, UWA offers an absolutely stunning setting for all manner of events including wedding ceremonies, photographic sessions and filming.

The gardens and buildings of UWA are listed on the National Heritage Register.

Wedding ceremonies and photographs

If you are looking for a venue for your wedding in an historical university setting, which will leave you with wonderful memories - the Sunken Gardens or the Tropical Grove could be the place for you.

The Sunken Gardens with its walkover bridge and ponds is set in a delightful amphitheatre with cascading trees over a central paved stage area where you can exchange your vows.

If you prefer a more lush setting, the Tropical Grove with dappled light streaming through a circle of immense palm trees surrounding a central gathering place may be just what you are looking for.

After the ceremony, you will be able to wander through the Mediterranean buildings of the main campus which surround Whitfeld Court. The grandeur of Winthrop Hall with its limestone colonnades and arches will enhance the beauty of your special day and give a touch of timelessness to your wedding - which you will long remember.

Booking the grounds

Use of the gardens for weddings, photographic sessions or any other event requires booking and payment.

Please note there is a 50 per cent discount on the first 1.5 hours of ground hire for all UWA students, graduates and staff.
