The University of Western Australia (UWA) is one of Australia’s leading universities and has an international reputation for excellence in teaching, learning and research.

It has almost 24,000 students enrolled across nine faculties. A model of broad undergraduate studies followed by postgraduate professional qualifications is designed to produce well-rounded graduates, as well as provide additional entry opportunities for a wider range of students.

As Western Australia's premier university, UWA was equal first overall in Australia based on key measures in the Good Universities Guide 2014 including student demand, graduate outcomes, graduate starting salaries, getting a full-time job and research grants.

The University aims to be counted among the top 50 universities in the world by 2050, and is currently ranked 91st on the Shanghai Jiao-Tong University Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

Highlights
In our quest for international excellence we continue to develop our strengths in research and teaching with staff and students being recognised at state, national and international levels.
Governance
The University was established under, and is governed by, the University of Western Australia Act 1911. The Act sets out the powers of the University's governing body, the Senate, and establishes the positions of Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor as well as Convocation and the Guild of Undergraduates.
Research Institutes and Centres
The University is home to a number of industry-based research centres and institutes, and is affiliated with many others in Western Australia and across the country. The University also works in partnership with three domestic and international university networks.
History of the University
Established in 1911 as the State's first university, The University of Western Australia was also the first free university in the British Empire, actively promoting equal access to tertiary education for all social classes. The suburb of Crawley, just 10 minutes from the Perth central business district, is home to the main campus of The University of Western Australia. The University has smaller campuses at Claremont and Albany.
Communications and marketing
Our communications team aims to maintain and develop the institutional brand, ensuring that the image and message we communicate is in line with the University's goals and the expectations of our stakeholders. The University’s official publications provide an overview of the University’s courses, research and expertise.
Filming and photography
If you are interested in filming on the UWA campus, submit your request at least seven working days prior to the filming date.
Working at UWA
We provide information for new, existing and potential staff, including comprehensive details about working conditions at the University. UWA is located only a few kilometres from the city, so there are a number of transport and parking options available to staff.
Complaints
We are committed to providing an environment in which concerns and complaints are treated seriously, impartially and resolved as quickly as possible. Complaints should, where possible, be raised with the other party in the first instance. We hope this informal step will ensure most matters can be readily resolved.
