Courses

Rock art is a universal demonstration of our humanity. Painting and engravings on rock art exist as part of the human landscape. Rock art provides us with insights into cultures of the past and present. By studying rock art we can better understand ourselves.

UWA offers a variety of interdisciplinary units focusing either explicitly on rock art, or incorporating discussions of rock art and Indigenous art as part of broader regional or thematic topics.

These units provide students with a deeper understanding and awareness of:

  • the complexities associated with recording, conserving, managing, analysing, and interpreting rock art
  • the interrelationships with rock art and other archaeological evidence
  • the significance of rock art to Indigenous communities and the importance of partnership investigations into Indigenous heritage
  • the inter-relatedness of rock art with other dimensions of Indigenous art.

Teaching draws mainly on the expertise from two Faculties:
