Short stories have appeared in Envisaged Worlds, Omega Science Digest, Other Worlds, Alien Worlds, The West Australian, and other sf/fantasy literary competitions.

- UWA Excellence in Teaching Award for Postgraduate Supervision 2000.
Inaugural winner (in 1992)Chandler Award for Achievement in the Field of Science Fiction and Fantasy. He previously won the Australian Science Fiction Achievement Award, the Ditmar Award, and has twice won the William Atheling Award for Science Fiction Criticism.
