Australia and the globe are experiencing rapid climate change.
Since the middle of last century, Australian temperatures have, on average, risen by about 1C with an increase in the frequency of heatwaves and a decrease in the numbers of frosts and cold days.
Rainfall patterns have also changed with the north west experiencing an increase in rainfall while much of eastern Australia and the southwest experienced a decline.
UWA is committed to innovative solutions to address this issue through extensive research, including:
- examining the atmospheric dynamics that have steered climate changes
- exploring alternative energy technologies
- researching the impact of climate change on communities
- researching transport and legal issues for mining, energy and natural resources sectors
- developing strategies to assist agriculture industries.
