The Water Corporation's Subiaco Wastewater Treatment Plant is in close proximity to the proposed Underwood Avenue development site.
The University has worked consistently and productively with the Water Corporation to identify issues related to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Honourable Donna Faragher MLC, State Minister for Environment consulted with the Water Corporation in making her Ministerial Statement (835).
Support for the development
The Water Corporation has stated that it supports the University's proposed development. The Corporation and the University have established a cooperative framework for the purposes of reducing any odour impacts.
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) supports the planned development as documented in their Bulletin 1272 (October 2007):
The University’s proposal for the residential component reflects the above buffer identified for the Subiaco Wastewater Treatment Plant. The EPA accepts that there is sufficient confidence that odour is managed such that residential land use can occur on the proportion of the land identified by the University.
