Upgrading the Watermans Bay Marine Centre

Further Information

Project Status 5 IOMRC watermans

The refurbishment of the Watermans Bay Marine Centre will result in the Indian Ocean's first seawater facility for broad marine research.

Works planned for the Watermans Bay Marine Centre include:

  • Replacing the existing roof;
  • Improving the overall appearance and landscape around the facility;
  • Improvements for the buildings' environmental performance;
  • Exterior painting of the entire facility;
  • Upgrades to the internal marine culture facilities, laboratories and offices; and
  • The installation of new security features.

The works take into consideration the requirement for a number of slim line flues to be installed on the roof, however the design of the new roof will not increase the height of the facility overall.

The internal footprint of the existing building will change minimally to accommodate Building Codes of Australia requirements (i.e. for improved internal accessibility) however the external building footprint will not increase.

The landscaping and trees in front of the facility will remain and the exterior works will improve the overall appearance of the facility.
